The Impact of Giving Back

I recently heard Kelli Harding, MD, speak at a conference where she provided this statistic, "For every one life that is saved by biomedicine, education saves eight." I often find myself thinking back and reflecting on this. When we think beyond the scope of ourselves and invest in sharing our experiences and enriching others, it has a profound impact. This is the power of giving back.

Too many people underestimate the power of giving back simply because the domino effect doesn't always come back full circle -- at least not immediately. But, the reality is that everything we have learned and accomplished in life results from someone else generously living theirs. Because of their willingness to educate and coach us from their own experiences, we can shape ours the way we desire.

Understanding the power of giving back has encouraged me to make it a policy to live generously in both my personal and professional life. There is no greater feeling than to help my clients tap into their strengths and capabilities as this opens their natural and authentic capacity to give with ease and abundance. The positive cascading impact of this is truly high impact. It's why education and empowering others does save lives exponentially more than biomedicine. There is no replacement for giving back or paying forward from what you do best.

What about you? Are you in the habit of living generously?
